his face remained expressionless, even as they traveled deeper and deeper into the ancient dino region. he'd heard many things - mainly for other digimon they had come across - about the area, yet had no hesitation in heading there. all the better, if time moved slower. if that particular rumor proved correct, then the 'training' to be done here would be twice as quick. raiden and takako could get twice as strong in half the time. and that was what he was aiming for, really. if the rumors proved false, then it was no loss to the sandy blonde teen. he would train anyways. there were many others who were stronger than him, than his digimon partners - they would train. but what was fighting without defeat? where was the fun in winning all the fights without so much as a scratch. they'd train, yes, but not to the point of sheer overwhelming power. ryuumaru always did like his fights to be challenging - which proved difficult considering how cowardly bullies and thugs were. granted, being outnumbered prove to be a challenge as well, but they were hardly ever true fighters on their own.
no. he didn't care for numbers, but rather for skill. numerous amount of opponents meant nothing if none of them could fight their way out of a paper bag. it would be like pitting the entirety of primary village against an ultimate - despite the sheer overwhelming numbers of the baby digimon, they would never be able to match up to the power and skill of an ultimate level.
ultimate.
the next level to reach, he knew. raiden and takako were probably at champion level now - stronger than before but still weak. too weak, really. for champions. his champions. perhaps his expectations were a bit high, but the emerald eyed boy couldn't bring himself to care at the moment. sure, he cared for his digimon, but what use would it be if they couldn't win. it wasn't even about winning either. he cared for them, so he would not allow them to be beaten so easily. if at all. challenges were always enjoyable, yes, but for the moment, ryuumaru would rather have the twins work on their skills first. polish up on their attacks. quicken their speed. be better, stronger before they got to the challenges that he knew so eagerly awaited them.
and as they continued on their trek to find an open clearing, all three stopped. hands in his pockets in a leisure stance, ryuumaru appeared as if nothing was wrong. his backpack hung off one shoulder, raiden narrowing his eyes while takako merely stilled, waiting for an order from her beloved taichou. head cocked to the side, he merely raised an eyebrow as his gaze turned to the source of noise that they had heard earlier. whoever it was probably wasn't the stealthiest person in the world - the rustling of leaves was always a dead give away, after all.
however, it wasn't ryuumaru that spoke, and it wasn't even takako, surprisingly. instead, it was the gruff, aggressive tone of raiden that broke the silence that seemed to fall on them. "hmph, you can come out now."

Yu blinked. He hadn't expected to have been found so easily. Izanagi looked at him. "Yu-dono. I suggest we approach them. It appears they will attack unless we do so." the Botamon replied. Yu frowned. He didn't really want to come out and be in the open with some strangers. Sure, they didn't look too much of a threat, as the duo could make a break for it if necessary. However, there was still the chance that the trio were capable of harming them easily and Yu did not want to take any chances. Then again, it actually wouldn't be too difficult since they were rather athletic and quick. So, Yu decided he would comply and stepped out from the large tree he had been hiding behind. He looked at Ryuumaru and the Digimon by him and immediately noticed that while they seemed comfortable with each other, there was still a sense of awkwardness between them, making it clear that they may be more experienced than most, they still had much to learn. This was good. This meant that they weren't as big of a threat.
"...Hello." he awkwardly greeted Ryuumaru, Takako and Raiden. Izanagi blinked and watched the trio carefully with his beady little eyes. He was not going to let them hurt Yu if they tried. Sure, they were stronger than he was, but he wouldn't go down without a fight. Yu shuffled his feet and tried to engage in small talk. "Um...I see you have two partners..." he noted with an awkward smile. This made things a little worse as that meant double the trouble. Yu really hoped there wouldn't be a fight of some sort. Izanagi simply tensed and was silent.

cautious.
that was the first word that came to ryuu's mind as the silver haired tamer stepped into the open. cautious, but not without reason. his partner was only a botamon - baby level like takako and raiden had been in for far longer than what was probably considered normal. then again, he had yet to meet others who had twins for partners like him. sure, they had two partners, but not twins. some even had three partners - three times the power - so there was no way this tamer was anything close to experienced. not with a botamon. not at that level.
but even as the thought ran through his mind, ryuumaru did not let his guard down. he never really did, not unless he was positive that he was alone and only when he was with those he cared for. his partners were grudgingly included because they had grown on him like some fungus that he just couldn't get rid of. yes, he thought they were annoying and irritating sometimes, but he cared for them. far more than he had first suspected he would - then again, he never thought he'd end up caring for such creatures when he first ran across them. sharp, emerald eyes focused back on the tamer after noting with some form of amusement that the botamon seemed just as cautious. two peas in a pod, apparently. unlike him and takako - raiden, he could understand as to why they were partners; the gazimon was just more bloodthirsty and battle hungry than ryuumaru himself. takako, though, was almost like the complete opposite of him and raiden - but perhaps that was the reason they had become partners in the first place. nevermind the fact that the labramon was raiden's twin sister.
he said nothing in return to the slightly awkward greeting, instead just choosing to acknowledge both the greeting and the two partners with a nod of his head. ryuumaru wasn't all too social anyways, not even back at home on earth. raiden, though he spoke first, did nothing but grin eagerly as he noted the botamon's cautious eyes. just as quickly as the thought came, though, it vanished. it would be no fun fighting a baby level and even he wouldn't dare to attack a baby like botamon. not unless he were on equal footing with the other digimon and raiden would rather eat his own ears than regress. still, they didn't need to know that though - the gazimon rather liked messing around with others, be it through a fight or otherwise. takako, easily the friendliest of the group, perked up. "hello, hello!" she barked in greeting, a semblance of a smile on her expression.
"that's 'cause we're twins!" she answered for her taichou, nodding at the fact. raiden rolled his eyes, but did nothing to deny the statement. he had learned long ago that takako could be damn irritating when she wanted to be - namely, when he refused to acknowledge that she was his twin. "but he's the baby between us two," she stage whispered, snickering when raiden turned his deep red gaze onto her, glaring for all he was worth. he hated when she mentioned that! "Shut up, baka, it's only by a couple of minutes." he scowled. twins they may be and sure, they spent their entire lifetime together, but that being said, they spend all their life together. it wasn't surprising they knew just which buttons to press and how to irk the other.
ryuumaru sighed inaudibly, far too used to their bickering for his liking. "enough." and all it took was that one word to stop the two mid-argument; instead settling for a last glare towards their twin before refocusing on the matter at hand. right, this tamer and his partner. "ryuumaru" he introduced himself, "and you are?" he didn't usually give his name first, but this guy was of no threat. of that he was positive. or rather, he wasn't a threat at the moment. it would change when they both got stronger - of which the sandy blonde would admit to looking forward to. ryuumaru always did enjoy his fights, after all.

Yu looked somewhat surprised that Takako had greeted him so warmly. It appeared that he had expected a fight. He seemed to relax somewhat, deeming Ryuumaru, Takako and Raiden as 'friendlies' though he continued to hug Izanagi gently. When Takako replied that she and Raiden were twins, Yu cocked a brow. They were just so...different. It was frankly somewhat hard to believe. Then again, appearances could be deceiving. However, when the duo began to bicker and argue, Yu tried not to chuckle. That made the 'twin thing' much more believable. He was extremely surprised at how disciplined the two were, however. A single word was all it took to stop the twins from bickering. When Ryuumaru introduced himself, Yu straightened up.
"I'm Yu." he said, calmly and put out a hand for a handshake. It was polite to do so, after all. Izanagi just stared at Ryuumaru and his partners before settling for a glare at Raiden. He didn't like how the Gazimon smelled of blood-lust to him. It made him nervous. What if Raiden attempted to attack? There was a definite chance of his Tamer getting hurt if that happened. Yu noticed that Izanagi refused to introduce himself and decided to introduce the Botamon, himself. "This is Izanagi." he said. He gave the Botamon a strict look, as if to say, "Be nice." and the small Digimon gave a small grunt before looking away from Raiden.

he was smart, at least. or perhaps he was paranoid or suspicious - but both were double edged swords and ryuumaru couldn't call him smart if it was due to either one of the two. the other tamer didn't seem paranoid but perhaps he was a bit suspicious - then again, in a world like the digital world, it wouldn't be too far-fetched, depending. perhaps he was a bit suspicious himself, but then again ryuumaru didn't particularly care enough to be suspicious. and while he tended to push others away with his aloofness, that's just how it was - none of it done due to suspicion or paranoia of being stabbed in the back. he entertained the idea once before, yet could not quite feel too worried about it. which may have - and probably was - due to the fact that takako and raiden were always watching his back when he took no interest in doing so. and even when he did, the twins still continued to do so as well.
he hadn't been one for partnerships or teamwork, but he learned that this was the price of such partnerships. especially with digimon. it was something he still had to get used to, but he was getting there. at least, when it came to the gazimon and labramon that had greeted him and followed him around until he succumbed to the annoyances that were now his partners. the fact that it had taken them this long for him to readily agree to such relationships made him feel a bit better. ryuu wouldn't be opening to anyone any time soon.
yu. a simple enough name. ryuu stored it away for later, in case he did end up meeting the other tamer elsewhere. ryuumaru knew that it was almost a bit too easy to encounter a familiar face considering the size of file island. and as yu outstretched his hand, ryuumaru nodded, shaking his hand with the firm grip he always unconsciously used. the sandy blonde thought that the botamon seemed like a smart digimon, weary of raiden if the glare was anything to go by, yet refraining from outright threatening or attacking the gazimon. raiden, on the other hand, as he noted the baby digimon's glare, grinned. he may not have wanted to fight a baby level, but that didn't mean he was just going to leave it at that - he rather liked conflict. takako glared at her brother, knocking him upside the head with her paw as she noted his reaction. "nice to meet you both! i'm takako!" almost like a complete one eighty from her abusiveness with her twin, takako was all smiles.
"and he's raiden. don't worry about him, he's just grumpy." she stated, more so to the botamon than yu, but still for the benefit of both. ryuumaru didn't say anything, only nudging his partner to behave himself, to which the gazimon grumbled unhappily. it wasn't like he was going to do anything anyways. "like i'd waste my time with him anyways." red eyes gleamed as they glared in a random direction, arms crossed as raiden sulked. stupid takako, always ruining his fun. he could expect it from his taichou - who always wanted the best behavior for the world to see until the right moment - but takako, really? just because she was older...
"where were you going? anywhere in particular?" somewhat random, but takako just wanted to keep the conversation going. yu seemed like he would talk to her. if not, then it was no loss - she was partners with her taichou and her twin was the anti-social raiden, after all. still, the labramon rather hoped that either yu or izanagi would talk with her.

Yu smiled at Takako. He found the Labramon very likable. As for Raiden, he tried not to look at the Guilmon. Raiden wasn't the most friendly towards him, after all. Izanagi seemed to relax towards Takako, deciding she wasn't a threat. However, he still tensed when looking at Raiden. The Gazimon seemed too bloodthirsty for his taste. The duo were slightly taken back when Takako wanted to speak again, but Yu decided to answer the Labramon's question anyway. "We actually weren't going anywhere specifically. Just...traveling around." he replied. Izanagi glanced at his Tamer, as if wondering why the boy trusted the Labramon so much. They had just met, after all. It didn't make much sense. Then again, Izanagi knew that his Tamer was simply a friendly person who just wanted to keep the peace.
"Um...were you planning on going anywhere specifically...?" he asked, wanting to keep the momentary peace they currently had. Izanagi glanced at Raiden again. He felt less tense knowing that the Labramon seemed to want to stop the Gazimon from causing any further tension between them, but he couldn't help but still be cautious as Raiden could easily attack and disregard what his twin kept telling him.

raiden didn't seem very interested in the conversation between his sister and the other tamer, who seemed to prefer her company over his or his taichou's. not that it mattered much because takako was always the talkative one and just because she was friendlier than they were did not mean she was weaker. he would know, the labramon had taken a liking to abusing her twin at the most random of times. like that moment before. of course, ryuumaru didn't particularly mind, so long as takako was ready for training when they found a clearing big enough. for the moment, he would allow his partner some slack.
of course, that didn't mean he was eager to allow an outsider - a stranger, for all intents - to sit back and watch their progress. perhaps they'd have to put it off for another day, as even the emerald eyed teen knew that they'd been traveling in silence for some time. of course takako would be eager for conversation - which wasn't all that unusual, but he wouldn't push the issue. otherwise she'd be a terror to live with. and when yu answered, ryuu couldn't bring himself to pull takako away from the only conversation she had in a while; of course, that didn't mean he was going to let her take it easy during training. he might even double the regimen to compensate for the missed day.
the sandy blonde glanced at yu, his answer running through ryuu's mind. a wanderer then? he couldn't say much though, as all the digidestined tended to be wanderers - never really staying in one spot for too long and just traveling. ryuu even considered himself a wanderer or sorts, though it wasn't for the sake of traveling or exploring the digital world - though he wouldn't be against doing so. after all, knowing more about one's surroundings was important - but rather for the sake of adaptation and training for his partners. it would be wrong to say the trio was power hungry, but ryuumaru wasn't one to just sit around idly when he could be improving. perhaps it was a bit of a perfectionist idea, but he couldn't help but. nothing but the best; words that he'd been living by for a while.
instead of takako answering, it was ryuumaru. and while the labramon wanted conversation, she didn't mind. she rather liked hearing her taichou's voice. "no," he answered, "you could say we're doing the same. just wandering." raiden growled. well there went his outlet for the day - and he was looking forward to training too! stupid takako. stupid yu. stupid botamon. takako, as if reading her twin's mind glared at the gazimon, even as ryuumaru ignored the two in favor of asking yu a question.
"you've been to a lot of places, then?" perhaps an area he had yet to travel to on his own - he'd already found some good training areas in different parts of the island, but he didn't mind adding more to the list. it just gave them all the more reason to hone their skills. "we've been a lot 'a places too! my favorite was probably the beach!" takako added, lively and energetic compared to ryuumaru's indifferent, somewhat bored aura. raiden 'humphed' and proceeded to ignore the two newcomers. he didn't particularly feel like his taichou would be happy with him should he lose his already frayed temper. then again it was all takako's fault...no, their taichou would be upset with both of them and no matter what others may think, raiden and takako absolutely hated getting their taichou upset or angry or, worse, disappointed.
and so, he'd just try his best to ignore them. lest he face not only ryuumaru's wrath, but takako's as well. stupid takako. "have you been there yet? it's real pretty! telephone booth beach! it's near...file city, i think? right, taichou?" she asked her tamer, unsure of where as it had been a while since they last visited. "it's around there, yes." he answered, emerald gaze flickering towards yu, as if in search of any sign of recognition of the city name.

Yu shuffled his feet awkwardly again. He didn't know when he had noticed it, but he certainly didn't like the aura Ryuumaru and Raiden gave out. It seemed very dark and uninviting, the complete opposite of the energy that Takako gave out. He rathered Takako than the other two. Izanagi felt the same. Still, Yu did feel as though the atmosphere had changed slightly when Ryuumaru replied that he was also simply wandering. Raiden had growled. That didn't sound very good. Yu tried not to look too wary as he glanced at the Gazimon and focused on Ryuumaru again. "Yes. I've been to quite a few places now." he replied. It was true; in the short amount of time Yu had been in the Digital World, he had traveled to many places. That didn't mean he had been everywhere, however. There were still many other parts that he had yet to travel to. When Takako added that she liked the beach, Yu noted that he actually had not been there yet. "I'm afraid I haven't been to Telephone Booth Beach yet. Although, I have been to File City. It was an interesting place."

quite a few. there were many numbers that could have translated to quite a few but considering the level izanagi was at, ryuumaru didn't think it was any more than maybe six. one could not travel around so many placed without a partner at least of rookie level or higher - he should know, he's done it. and there had been many fights between places; some rookies some higher levels that he, as a human, couldn't compete with. while he hated the mere idea of being weak and running away, that is exactly what he had done earlier when he ran into trouble. considering raiden had always been a prickly, aggressive digimon didn't really help. then again, they appeared agile enough to outrun a couple of champions. and they might've been smart enough that they had been able to hide from, or outmaneuver a champion they couldn't outrun.
"yeah, there's a lot of stuff in file city! a lot of other tamers live there and-and a lotta other digimon too! have you eaten in a restaurant there, they're all pretty good."
perhaps traveling with him would not be so much of a loss as he thought. at least this way, ryuu could determine the level of threat yu could possibly end up being, should they ever end up in a fight. currently, he doubted the tamer could do much damage. one digimon against his two - rookies compared to the baby level - and there was no question that his partners would win. in a fight between himself and yu, however, he could not determine the winner. he never really did, his arrogance more so the reason of how he knew he would win. but things were different in the digital world, even though ryuumaru continued practicing and sparring, who knows what other types of people had been called to the digital world. raiden and takako would grow stronger, as shall he, and so he wouldn't risk losing a battle. not until his partners were as powerful as they could get and then some. "how long have you known izanagi?" how long had he been there? or perhaps he had met his partner after he arrived - though he had yet to hear of that happening.
of course, he, himself, tried to leave his partners behind when he first arrived and he had yet to hear or see of another tamer do the same thing. "are ya gonna digivolve soon?" the labramon piped up, curiosity in her tone, head tilted as she glanced at the botamon in yu's arms. it reminded her of the times when she was small enough for her taichou to carry, though it was mostly her hitching a ride on his shoulder as he refused to carry her ninety-five percent of the time. raiden merely continued to remain by his tamer's side, refusing to even acknowledge the other tamer or the baby level digimon in his arms. perhaps if he ignored them long enough they'd get the message and just leave so he could train and beat up some other digimon that was worth his time.
"where'd you meet? in primary village? it's a popular place for tamers to appear." takako added, curious because while she remembered the village, she had left early with raiden as they both felt the pull of their tamer. perhaps the botamon had felt that same pull. or perhaps he just hatched at the right area. who knows, but she wanted to. mainly just because she was curious. it was an interesting topic of conversation too, after all - like two birds with one stone.

Yu seemed to be slightly overwhelmed by Takako's powerful energy but recovered and managed to keep up with the hyper Labramon. "Yes, I have eaten in a restaurant in File City. I am rather fond of their various foods. It may be somewhat eccentric, but I prefer trying new things. It's the only way to find out whether or not you like them, after all." he replied with a smile. Takako was really pleasant to speak with. When Ryuumaru spoke up, Yu was slightly surprised. He had thought that the boy wouldn't speak at all. Yu had met some people like that before and they preferred to let their partners do all the talking. "Izanagi...? I believe I've known him ever since I arrived in the Digital World. I've been here for about a month, now." Yu said. Izanagi nodded to confirm Yu's answer.
When Takako asked if he was going to digivolve soon, Izanagi replied, "I am actually capable of digivolving to Rookie. I simply prefer this form as it requires less energy." Yu looked at his partner. Since when was the Botamon capable of doing so? He certainly did not remember that. Perhaps Izanagi gained this ability while they were here? Well, Yu definitely felt safer knowing that. At least he would be on even grounds with Ryuumaru's Digimon as long as they didn't digivolve further. When Takako asked where they had met, Yu thought about it. The place they had met was...an odd one. "We actually met in Native Forest." he replied. The forest was rather dangerous. Yu definitely remembered that.

the labramon's ears seemed to perk up as her magenta eyes glanced at the silver haired tamer. they recently been to file city, yet she couldn't help but miss the food. after all, it was a bit more difficult to come by some good cooking while traveling - taichou didn't like staying in too crowded areas for too long and leaned more towards necessity rather than preference. and necessity meant saving money and not spending it all on restaurant quality food. which, honestly, takako was a bit disappointed with but hey, at least she still got to eat with her taichou! "really? which one's your favorite? i like the-the one--" and she'd forgotten the name of her favorite restaurant, but she knew where it was and who owned it so it was okay, "tailmon's restaurant!" and if he hadn't been there, she would let him know. the restaurant owned by tailmon was positively delicious in the digimon's opinion.
"have you been there? you should try it, it's really good!" the food was, not so surprisingly, a bit more fitted to the tailmon's taste, which usually meant a lot of different fish were on the menu. takako didn't mind though, she quite liked the taste of fish. and though he never said that he liked it specifically, the labramon knew her brother had enjoyed the food as much as she did. taichou didn't mind fish either, which was good because that meant that they could go there next time they were in file city! hopefully, taichou was never the type to spoil his partners, but takako didn't mind. so long as he stopped trying to get rid of her and raiden - and thank seraphimon that he did! - all was okay. as long as she was able to remain by her taichou's side, then the labramon didn't particularly mind anything else.
"ah," he hummed in response, shoving his hands in his pockets after adjusting his backpack strap. ryuumaru didn't have much else to say about the matter, he had gotten what he wanted to know. though he wasn't adverse to conversing should he feel like it, the sandy blonde had planned to train before this. but he hadn't wanted to leave takako feeling too lonely for too long. let it not be said that he doesn't care for his digimon because damn it, he did. even if he didn't show it often. takako though, grinned as izanagi replied he could digivolve to rookie level. she herself preferred her in-training form if only because then she'd be able to be held by her taichou. "i like being a shaomon because then taichou can carry me!" she huffed, and probably would've crossed her arms with an indignant pout if she were a human child, "i'm too big to be carried now."
raiden, on the other hand, merely scoffed at the botamon's answer. who wouldn't prefer to be a rookie? he'd get his butt kicked before he had a chance to digivolve the idiot. but the gazimon was biased, always looking for a good fight worth his time because for all his bloodthirstyness, he didn't attack babies like they were nothing. also because he was very content with his champion form, nevermind how demonic it was or how fearful others got of any devidramon. he'd admit that they weren't the most friendly. nor social. but hey, it sort of fit and he wasn't about to complain. "you've digivolved before?" because yu seemed surprised - even raiden noticed and he didn't want anything to do with the two. of course their taichou noticed - he was always noticing things. takako only asked out of curiosity; she wasn't as patient as her taichou and she didn't really have the cunning needed - not really, not unless it was someone else trying to steal her taichou's attention from her - to 'beat around the bush' while still getting to the point, so to speak.
both tamer and digimon - well, one partner anyways - nodded when yu told them that they started out in the native forest. had he been there before? ryuumaru tried to think on it. he'd been to yokomon village, mount mihirashi but not the native forest. he only knew it to be in the southern region due to his digivice but he'd never went there before. perhaps he should take a visit, depending on what yu said, anyways. "in the southern region, correct?" raiden's ears twitched at his tamer's voice, yet he continued to refuse to pay attention to the two newcomers. how long were they going to talk with him anyways? but he said kept his mouth shut as red eyes glared at the trees around them - if something caught his taichou's interest then so be it. but he was still impatient; he just wanted to get on with training already!
"what's it like? we haven't been there before." he asked, adding in that last bit as an explanation of sorts. just because he was a bit - more than a bit in takako's opinion - anti-social, didn't mean he didn't know how to hold a conversation. ryuumaru just rather preferred to avoid doing so if he could help it. and this wasn't because he wanted to talk, but rather due to his search for a few good training areas. takako, though, was curious about the native forest as well. she heard a lot about that place - maybe they'd go there next!
"i've heard lots about it, too! like, like there's a lotta digimon hiding around there! is that true? do they jump out at you if you find them?"
